How It Works

Pick-Up

The US Forest Service provided mustangs for the 2025 EMM!

Pick-up locations:

  • December 6-7, 2024 in Glen Rose, Texas

  • December 13-15, 2024 in Lebanon, Tennessee​

Train

Riders and handlers have

6 months to train their wild horse for competition. 

 

Competition Divisions being offered:

  • Adult under-saddle​

  • Youth in-hand

  • Adult in-hand

Compete

​Preliminary classes include:

  • Handling & Conditioning

  • Trail course

  • Maneuvers (under-saddle only)

 

The top 10 from preliminary classes will move on to the Freestyle Finals!

2025 EMM Mustangs

Horses were provided by the US Forest Service from a variety of wild horse territories:

  • Devils Garden WHT (California)

  • Jarita Mesa WHT (New Mexico)

  • Jicarilla WHT (New Mexico)

  • North Hills JMA (Utah)

  • Moriah HA (Nevada)

  • Murder's Creek WHT (Oregon)

  • Triple B JMA (Nevada)

"Samba was my first 100-day challenge horse, and we took reserve grand in our challenge in 2019. Since then I have gentled and competed with 6 more mustangs. 


I still have Samba, she is my go-to for cattle work, endurance, obstacle trail — you name it and she can do it. "
